Camouflage comes in three basic styles, military, real life & breakup. Military is designed to hide humans from humans. While this may be better than your blue jeans & yellow shirt it is not ideally suited to hunting. Real life are patterns which imitate leaves, sticks, rocks, tree bark etc. Now these days real life patterns are better than ever showing every little twig & minor detail. At arms length in the store these real life patterns are so cool that you will just have to be invisible in the field, right? In truth the answer is no. The majority of real life patterns when taken to the field & viewed at 15 metres & beyond become so dark that you will be one big human looking form & the further out you go the darker you become..... & thats bad news if your a hunter! Let me explain, the game animals that you & I hunt are PREY animals. Their eyes are placed on the side of their heads to afford a 350 degree view, this has evolved down through the ages to keep these animals alive! You & I , lions, wolves, big cats etc are PREDATORS ie. we have our eyes on the front of our heads. We focus on our prey ( the stalk ) making eye contact & move slowly forward until reaching striking distance...... well we used to until woolies & coles came along! Prey animals have come to realise that a Predator is a mortal threat to their lives & remember they have eye sight many, many times greater than you & I. They also see in shades of black, white & grey which is why the main page shows a picture in this colour spectrum. Ok, so your stalking your game, your focused on him 50 metres out & this big old Stag looks up & sees this big dark coloured predator staring him in the eyes. At this point your hunt is over! The Stag bolts for cover & you put it down to him seeing you. On this point you are right, he did see you. Years of hunting have proved one thing to me & that is it is EXTREMELY difficult to HIDE from animals in the field. We have just learned that being a predator in shape will scare a game animal into flight long before we are close enough to access trophy potential or take a killing shot. This is where BREAKUP patterns come in. BLACKFOOT BREAKUP has been scientifically designed to make you non predatory in shape at 5 metres or 500 metres. Game animals have a very basic philosphy on life eat, sleep & breed. If a Predator comes along they will flee but fleeing uses valuable energy & takes them over the next hill, which to them may have another Predator waiting to kill them. So they would much rather stand their ground ( conserving energy ) & figure out that unusual shape beside that tree than run over the hill. No that you know this being INVISIBLE is really not what it's all about. What it is about is being NON PREDATORY. Thats why BLACKFOOT DESIGNS is working outside the traditional square. Now you may not believe me & thats ok but I would ask you to have a look at you mate in his real lifes at 50 metres or so next time your in the bush or better still try covering your eyes with a outspread hand, so you can still see through but the mob of roos, goats, cows etc cannot see those predator eyes. Most likely they will look for a while & then go back to what they were doing. Slide your hand away when none are looking & the first one to glance your way will real back in terror realising a deadly Predator is nearly upon them. This single piece of information can change your hunting for ever more..... it did mine!

A NOTE ABOUT BLAZE ORANGE CAMOUFLAGE: as I grew up I noticed in US hunting magazines that hunters wore bright orange vests & clothing. Now to me I obviously thought that it was to stop another hunter from shooting at you in mistake of game. I also thought that all the animals from miles around could easily identify you also & would be long gone & well out of hunting range. On the first point I was correct, it is to identify you to another hunter or outdoors person. On the second point I was way off! You see the game animals that we all pursue have vision called Dichromatic, that is they see in shades of black/white/grey. Deer are reported to see into the ultra violet spectrum which rules out BLUE clothing for your hunting. So you now can see that wearing a red or orange colour into the field is just as camo as a green or olive. Another point to remember is that animals that can see into the ultra violet spectrum will easily see your favourite camo's as a glowing blue blob if your not washing your hunting clothes in SPORTWASH. Normal washing powders/liquids are full of ultra violet brighteners, whiteners & oxidizers not to mention that lovely fragrance that is totally foreign to a game animal. So for your "R" licence or just to be safe wear BLACKFOOT BLAZE.
